The American Cancer Society (ACS) has said in a tweet that they will now accept Dogecoin as donations. While making the appeal, ACS said that the donation will be tax-deductible and help in offsetting the shortage of funds, caused by COVID-19.
American Cancer Society has made it clear that to meet their milestone, the company has reduced fund research ability by just 50%. The organization will presumably be able to meet its goal as the value of Dogecoin rises rapidly. DOGE’s price has increased by around 24,000% till now. The early investors will therefore have a surplus, which they can either spend or donate.
The Giving Block payment processor is powering the crypto donation platform of the American Cancer Society. The other kinds of cryptocurrencies the organization accept include Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), and 11 other cryptos.
The decision of ACS comes at a time when the developer of Dogecoin, Sporklin, passed away due to cancer recently. In fact, one of the users of Dogecoin said that they have recently contacted and encouraged several non-profit organizations of cancer to accept DOGE.
On Reddit (/r/dogecoin), the American Cancer Society’s support for the digital coin attracted more than 300 comments, thereby becoming one of the top threads. Billy Markus, the co-creator of DOGE, acknowledged on Twitter by saying:
“I got really moved seeing this actually, that the silly thing I made years ago can be used for this. It’s an honor.”
